…AND SO IT BEGINS By Alf Collins

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

NEW SEASONS BRING new challenges. Schedules are drawn up, relevant work projects are allocated for the coming months, and priorities put into place. Needless to say, this time in our lives places emphasis on importance. Added to the pressures of all that planning is squeezed tight the challenge of making space and time in our lives for both loved ones and home life.

Finding the right balance is never an easy task, and is at best impossible to achieve in a perfect manner. As time marches on, priorities change and schedules fall away. Nothing set on paper is permanent.

Life happens.

Circumstances change, sometimes for the better and other times for the worse. The life we live is being shifted everyday by uncertainty, but we also live this life rooted in our one absolute constant:  Christ Jesus, our Chief Cornerstone.

1 Peter 2:7-8 (NKJV)
Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, “The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.” (Psalms 118:22) and “A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense.” (Isaiah 8:14) They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed.

Matthew 7:26 (NKJV)
But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.

New seasons bring new dangers. One danger that seamlessly integrates itself throughout all seasons is the potential to drift from Jesus and His word. Once that happens our fabric is slowly worn away, drifting from the Fellowship of the Saints and eventually from the presence of the Almighty Father. These dangers are very real and very possible. Our placement must always be in Him, no matter the course seasons take us on. Jesus must always be our alignment, our compass, because it is so easy to become disorientated by the challenges life throws at us. It’s even easier to begin building these foundations with an alignment stone hewn by our own hands and rejecting the true alignment stone, the Rock of our Salvation.

Matthew 7:24 (NKJV)
Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock.

So as we embark into our new seasons, whatever they may be and wherever they may take us, let us not make resolutions that the flesh is unable to keep, but rather determine with our entire beings to open up the helm, stepping aside and letting Jesus pilot us to our destinations. If we allow Him to steer our way, things may go wrong and we certainly won’t be without trouble, but we will persevere in the hardships knowing we’re in safe hands.
