Going on mission with God is not a business deal. We don’t become shareholders in a company called ‘The Kingdom of God’. We don’t buy into a partnership nor do we acquire associate status’ or bend over backward to clinch the deal.

Ephesians 2:4-10 (NKJV) reads:
‘But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.’

God does not call us to partner with Him, He never has. He calls us to become companions with Him. He calls us to live out His plan and purpose for our lives, His divine blueprint, in unhindered relationship with. Our calling is a commission, but not a deployment. We’re not furnished with orders, and then sent out on our own to get on with it.

No, by no means at all. He is there with us every step of the way. That’s why Jesus sent His most trustworthy and faithful counsellor. He did not leave us as orphans in this world, but gave us the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, to lead us in the paths we should go. We are companions of God. In a previous post, we read of how we’ve become friends of God. A great deal of that friendship is companionship –close, personal relationship with the Father, all fetters and shackles abandoned to be in His presence.

Grasp that concept, and you’ll become a champion in whatever you do, having confidence in the knowledge that God is always for us and never against us. He works in all things for the good of those who love Him, plans to prosper us and not to harm us. In Him we are more than conquerors because He is able to do over and above, more than we could ever ask or think of. With Him all things are possible. Who wouldn’t want someone like that as a lifelong companion?
