The Blueprint Continues
Discover Who God Is
By Tom Smith

Is Jesus just a one-way ticket to heaven and Salvation, merely a means of escaping hell?

If you believe that God is a tired old man with gray hair, and that his greatest desire is to take away all the fun in life, then you are deeply, sadly, mistaken. Life is all about getting to know God and experiencing life together with him.

You can go to church a lifetime and never really know God. You may know all about him, without knowing him; in the same way as it is possible to be in a close physical relationship with someone, yet know nothing about them. A personal relationship with God can’t really be explained, it has to be experienced.

God can’t be found through mathematical calculations, telescopes or microscopes, yet everything observed through these have his fingerprints all over them. I think that God loves a good mystery. Every child loves to play hide and seek. Our God-given human nature is to be curious. We like to discover new things. What would life be if we remained in the sandbox together with that five year old boy until we grew old, surrounded by toy trucks and tractors?

The greatest discovery that you can make in life, is that God loves you and that you were created to love Him back.

By observing the creation and the world in which we live, we can learn a lot about God. The stars in the sky witness about how powerful and endless God is. On the other hand, the human body is made up out of 37.2 trillion cells. If you lined them all up, the cells in your body would circle the earth almost nineteen times. This speaks to me of that God pays attention to the smallest detail.

I love thunder and lighting on a stormy night and waking up to sunshine and blue skies, as if the world just took a bath and everything is new, and I know that God loves it too.  The world is an awesome place with mountains and flowers, robins and lions, huge and small, peaceful and fierce, all part of the wild world that God has created. I know that God loves adventure. Have you ever felt the tug in your heart to not turn around, but just to keep driving to see where the road leads? Your soul is searching for a place to call home, a search that will never end until your soul finds what it was created for; a relationship with God.

I see God’s face light up as a couple falls in love, because He loves romance. Jesus said:

Matthew 19:5
For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.

Through this gift, God gave us something very special and close to God’s heart; the family. God’s way is for His creation to grow, and the reason why you are here. God really deserves the Nobel Prize on this one. Pure genius!

“How can I know this awesome God? I’ve never seen Him and Jesus lived two thousand years ago!”

I think of it this way. Before I actually met my wife, we spent four years writing each other, as we lived in different continents. I would say that we knew each other rather well by the time we met. We had spent all this time dreaming about each other and getting to know each other. God has also left us written letters that we find in the Bible. Yes, men wrote the Bible but as God directed them through the Holy Spirit. Through this book, we get to know God and what He is like. The Bible is also called the living book, because when we read it and the Holy Spirit guides us, it comes to life and its words becomes seeds planted in our hearts that begin to grow.

So many things get in our way of finding God. It’s like walking through the woods and you can’t see where you are going because of all the trees. Trees can be nice, but you can also get lost. Many things in life can be nice, but when they are more important to us than finding God, they are the trees that stand in our way.

One of the passages in the Bible that spoke to me as I began searching for God was this one,

Matthew 6:25-34
Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?  Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’  For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

I was so busy worrying about life that I could not relax. I threw myself on these words spoken by Jesus and decided that I could trust him. This freed me from my worries so that I could take the time needed to listen to him. I began to get up early on mornings to read the Bible and pray. I would take walks in the woods. As I walked on the trails, my mind was focused on God. I had questions that He answered and I felt this powerful love flood into my life.

God did not speak to me with an audible voice, but it was an inner realization and understanding. It was at times a wild experience of discovering who God was. One night, I ran out of the house early for my morning walk. The presence of God’s Holy Spirit inside of me was so strong that I could not stop running until I was out of breath. Another time I felt as if I was surrounded by calm water in a tropical lagoon, while I walked on the concrete trails, in God’s presence. God’s love was the ocean that surrounded me.

All these experiences opened my eyes to a new world. I had often lived in a world of doubt, but now my world was alive with brilliant colors. The trees were greener than ever and the sky bluer and my beautiful wife became even more beautiful.  My doubts were shattered as I saw the world as if I had just been born and finally understood; God is real and He has made all of this.

The love that I felt pour into my life during my time spent with God shocked me. I did not know that He loved me this much. I fell in love with Him.

I have shared these experiences with you, simply because that is how I relate to God; through personal experiences. There’s a lot I don’t know about God, but I know Him personally. If you have not experienced God personally, I want to encourage you to leave everything that stands in your way and seek Him.

God is waiting on you to come to Him, simply because it is your decision, not His. He has brought you here and given you life. God invites you to become His own son or daughter; to be born again.
