2 Samuel 6:22a (NKJV)
And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight…

Worship is the most profound medium of fellowship with the Father. It’s the one time we present our own hearts vulnerable before Him, laying everything before Him at the throne of mercy. It’s the one place we have unfettered freedom to lay out our hopes and our fears, our dreams and our failures. That is what we were designed for –intimacy. Relationship of the highest level calling us into the deepest of depths as deep calls out to deep.

It’s like the vision of Ezekiel 47, when the Spirit took Ezekiel to the river at the temple. The water was ankle deep at first, and as he waded farther on into the river it became knee deep, then waist deep, until he eventually had no other option but to swim. As the Holy Spirit draws us into worship we can’t help but go deeper. He calls us in, saying, “It’s OK to come deeper in, I’ll keep you safe. You’ll be alright”. And when we respond to His call something happens within us. We desire to know more, and to experience more of Him. We lay down greater parts of our lives as living sacrifices, forgetting what lies behind and looking forward to the Author and Perfecter and Finisher of our faith.

Pride has not place in the arena. Inhibitions fall away. Prisoners lose their chains, the blind see, the deaf hear, and the dead are raised to life. Those who wait upon the Lord are renewed in strength, they mount up and soar like eagles high about the mountain peaks. This freedom in the Spirit is what makes us dance and sing, flinging wide open the doors and going into the the streets singing, “Jesus is alive.” Once we’ve tasted and seen that the Lord is good, our only logical response is to become even more undignified than this.

Undignified in Christ,
